A MULTI-MILLION pound Mediterranean- style mansion on the outskirts of a North-East town is to appear on a national television show this week.

Tindale Towers, the family home of Mike Keen and Jules Holliday, which lies on the edge of Bishop Auckland, will be featured on I Own Britain's Best Home.

The building, which has become a landmark loved and loathed in equal measure, is one of three homes from around the UK featured on the Channel Five show on Thursday.

Presenter Russell Harris spent two days at the house for filming, and viewers can vote for their favourite home in the show, which starts at 8pm.

Mr Keen, who owns furniture company Keen Replicas, said that producers had been told about the house by Wear Valley District Council's tourism department.

He said: "I'm not really a publicist, but I thought it was good for the house and good for the area."

Tindale Towers has already won one award in recent days - it was victorious in the local authority building control northern region built in quality awards category for best sustainability innovation at Slaley Hall, in Northumberland, last Friday.

The house is also shortlisted for the North-East Renaissance Awards, organised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, on Friday.
