The healthcare agency that is responsible for GP services in Darlington has announced it will be closing its locations ahead of the Queen's funeral.

Darlington Primary Care Network issued a statement on their social media, revealing plans to shut all of their surgeries on the day of the Queen's funeral (on Monday, September 19).

This will give staff the chance to pay their final respects to the Queen on the day of her state funeral.

Earlier this week, Dr Ursula Montgomery, the NHS's Director of Primary Care, issued a statement regarding the closure of GP practices.

Dr Montgomery said: "Practices will be contractually able to close on this day for their core services."

"Primary care professionals and their teams will want to pay their respects on this day wherever possible, and contractually may be supported to do so with the declaration of the bank holiday.''

On social media, Darlington Primary Care Network stated: "Your local pharmacy may be closed on Monday 19 September to mark the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

They went on to advise: "To avoid any delays in getting your medicines, please remember to order repeat prescriptions through the NHS app or at your local GP practice in good time."

Eleven practices will be affected by these planned bank holiday closures. These are:

  • Blacketts Medical Practice
  • Carmel Medical Practice
