A man has been left in a critical condition in hospital after an accident involving a car and motorbike yesterday (Tuesday September 13) evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A192, near the Victoria and Albert pub in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, around 6.20pm last night to reports of a road traffic collision.

Police, ambulance and air ambulance crews all attended the incident and the rider of the motorcycle was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The road was closed for nine hours overnight as residents reported the area being blocked off with a heavy police presence at the scene.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police told The Northern Echo: “Shortly after 6.20pm yesterday (Tuesday), we received a report of a road traffic collision, involving a motorcycle and a car on the A192 near the Victoria and Albert pub in Seaton Delaval.

“Emergency services were called to the scene and the rider was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

“His family are currently being supported by specialist officers.

“The road was closed for nine hours before being re-opened shortly after 3am this morning.

Officers are now investigating the incident and appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

They added: “Enquiries into the incident are on-going. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact us online via our ‘Tell us Something’ section of the website, quoting log NP-20220913-0827.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Seaton Terrace in Seaton Delaval at 6.20pm last night.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, a clinical team leader and a specialist paramedic, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken by road to the RVI for further treatment.”
