A SERVICE club, which has just appointed its youngest-ever president, is appealing for more young members to come forward.

Paul Tallentire has become president of Stanley Lions Club at the age of 32.

The club has completed a successful year of fundraising and social activities, which have raised thousands of pounds for causes in the area.

During the past 12 months, club members have organised football talk-ins, race nights, sponsored bike rides and casino nights.

Mr Tallentire said: "Since last year, our membership has increased by more than 50 per cent, but we are always looking for more people to join and help us with new fundraising ideas, which will benefit local causes.

"As well as the charity work, we have a lot of fun with various social nights, and our members come from all different backgrounds.

"We can draw on the knowledge of our more experienced Lions and, in addition, we have ten members under the age of 40, and two currently in their 20s, which gives us a great mix.

"But the best way to keep developing as an organisation is to take on new members with new ideas."

Stanley Lions meet at the Causey Arch pub on the second and fourth Monday of every month, at 7pm, with new members welcome to attend.
