A Darlington doughnut shop has caused shock after taking to social media to report that a customer had mistaken the small sink in their bathrooms for a urinal – branding the offending person as “grim”.

Harry’s Handcrafted Doughnuts, who are based on High Row in the town, might be known for their delicious sweet treats and coffee, but on Monday (September 13) morning, they got quite a lot of attention for their social media post.

After taking to their official Facebook page, Harry’s relayed the story of a customer putting the plug in the sink and going to the toilet in it – causing a mess for the staff that work there.

While the management of the doughnut shop, which opened in Darlington in January 2022 and boasts a five-star rating online, ironically congratulated the customer for their ‘aim’ in “such a small sink,” they called the act “pretty grim”.

The post from Harry’s read: “For future reference, anything with a tap on it probably isn’t a urinal.

“Someone very kindly put the plug in and pissed in this sink on Saturday.

“I mean fair play for managing to do it in such a small sink but it’s pretty grim for the girls in the coffee shop to deal with.”

Despite it initially being posted as a negative, there was one positive that came out of the post.

After posting about the “grim” act, the store has offered a free box of doughnuts for anyone with information on who the offending customer was, so they can publicly shame them.

Alongside the initial post, which has so far garnered 143 reactions, 40 comments, and 12 shares, social media users had a range of emotions towards the post.

One person said: “I mean, why anyway, but why put the plug in?! There are some weird, weird people about,” while another added: “what is wrong with some people?”

Meanwhile, another person saw the funny side and simply put: “P*ss take that mate”.
