A TEENAGER'S payback for a prank that went wrong will take him the best part of ten months to complete.

On February 1, Seb Green set off from Weymouth, near his home in Poole, Dorset, at the start of an attempt to walk round the entire coastline of the British mainland.

Just under two months into his 6,800-mile trek with canine companion Flash, he arrived at the latest stop, in Easington, County Durham, yesterday.

The 18-year-old and his faithful border collie were guests of Glendene School and Community Arts College, where they were given a welcome warm meal.

In return, he spoke of his experiences en route with young candidates tackling the Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award scheme at Glendene.

Mr Green is completing the walk as the service sector of his gold DoE award.

The main reason for the task he set himself arose from a brush with danger after he took a boat for a trip in Weymouth Harbour in 2005.

It ended with him running aground and being brought to safety, suffering hypothermia, following a coastguard rescue operation.

Working with the local Youth Offending Team and Duke of Edinburgh scheme volunteers, he has turned his life around and helps to promote safety messages to other young people.

He planned the walk to "give something back" and hopes to raise £20,000 for charity, the amount his rescue cost.

The money will go to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the Starlight Children's Foundation.

He is backed by a support team in Dorset and a network of volunteers on standby round the country to offer help if required.

It has so far gone almost without a hitch, other than an injury Flash picked up leaping a barbed wire fence in Whitby.

Mr Green said: "He had to be stitched up, but he seems okay now.

"Otherwise, everything has been fine up to now."

He thanked Glendene headteacher Cath Williams, who has put him and Flash up for two nights with her family, before setting out on the rest of yesterday's 16-mile section on County Durham coastline.
