YEAR 7 students from Wolsingham School and Community College have been paving the way for schools across the country by trying out a music project for the new National Curriculum.

This was devised by Andrew Fowler, leader of learning for music, who chose the theme Exploring Tribal Identity and set pupils working on common topics across music, art, drama and English lessons.

Some students worked behind the camera filming and interviewing whole classes and smaller groups.

They produced a five-minute DVD which was edited in the school's multi-media studio and shown at the regional launch of the new National Curriculum for Music in Darlington.

On it the students said they had enjoyed the project and learnt new skills including team-work, independent learning, empathy a and self-confidence.
