AN artist has opened his first gallery in the town he has immortalised in many of his paintings.
Eric Thompson, who has been painting for more than 27 years, will sell his watercolour works from premises in North Bondgate, in Bishop Auckland.
Mr Thompson, who lives in Spennymoor and grew up in Shildon, is best known for his paintings of North-East scenes, but also produces images of trains, cricket and other landscapes.
The shop, called Bondgate Gallery, will be run by his daughter, Lynn.
Mr Thompson said: "For the past 27 years, I've done shows all over the country, but I always wanted to open my first gallery in the North-East."
