A CHURCH group hopes its fundraising campaign will burst into life when it hosts a flower festival this summer.

Friends of St Edmund's Church, in Sedgefield, want to raise £60,000 to replace interior lighting at the medieval church.

It will host a flower and arts festival at the church from Friday July 11 to Sunday 13.

The festival, called The Splendour of Flowers, will include floral arrangements, art textile and fabric displays and two evening concerts.

Organisers said it will be a wonderful event for villagers and visitors and are seeking corporate sponsorship for focal pieces of floral art from £50 to £150.

Individual sponsorship of small posies and arrangements can be dedicated to the sponsor, or in the name of a loved one, and will start at £10.

Sponsors will be invited to a launch on Thursday, July 10, when the festival will be opened by Tyne Tees TV presenter Pam Royle.
