AN up-and-coming rock band featuring a University of Teesside lecturer is celebrating after receiving glowing praise from the national music press.

The Eruptors, with part-time business lecturer Alex Gillett, have just released their first album, Bad Time To Be Having a Good Time.

It has been described by Kerrang! as a "turbo-injected, blast of garage-rock".

Mr Gillett, 30, of Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, said he has used his experience in the field of marketing and business to promote the band He said: "It's a good feeling to finally have the album released. It's taken a lot of effort, but it has been worth every ounce of energy that we have put into this.

"Teesside Business School has always been supportive and enabled me to pursue my music career around the work that I do at the university.

"I've been able to use and develop the knowledge I've learned from my studies and, now that I lecture, I am able to give a bit back as I have used some of my experiences in the music business and examples in lectures.

"We sent out lots of demos and did a lot of groundwork and, eventually, our CD was passed on to a record company. We've been building up to this."
