AN Easter motorbike run was hit by the weekend's weather, but the event organiser said it had still been a success.

The Coyote Motorcycle Club Easter run, which delivers eggs to disabled people, sick children and pensioners in the Darlington area, suffered its worst turnout in 15 years.

But John Bailey, the man behind the charity ride, said it was an achievement to have as many as 60 bikers taking part.

Despite the worst weather in the 18- year history of the event, Mr Bailey declared it a success.

He said: "Apart from the cold weather, which gave us a far smaller turnout than we would usually expect, we still had 60 bikers delivering more than 300 eggs.

"Outdoor events like this are dependent on the weather.

"Last year, we had the best weather in our 18-year history, but this year has been the worst.

"At last year's event we had 175 bikers, but 60 is a good turnout considering the conditions."

Bikers had intended on coming from around England and Scotland, but all those planning long-distance journeys cancelled as the wintery weather took a hold over the weekend.

A fundraiser held after the bike ride, on Saturday night, also managed to raise about £100 for good causes in Darlington.
