POLICE have arrested two men in connection with a fatal assault on a 19-year-old man at the weekend.

The men, both aged 22, are in custody and are helping police with their enquiries. Officers are still looking for a third man.

A police spokesman said officers and paramedics received a report of an assault at an address in Grace Street, Byker, Newcastle, at 10.15pm on Sunday.

The spokesman said: "A 19-year-old man received serious injuries from which he later died."

Detective Superintendent Steve Wade added: "We would ask people to contact the police if they have any information which may help with this investigation. An incident room has been set up at Byker police station."

A post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death. The dead man has not yet been named.

Extra patrols will be carried out in the area to reassure local residents and anyone with any concerns should contact police to discuss them.
