Two convicted sex offenders will have to wait at least another month to learn their fate as industrial action by barristers meant they could not be sentenced.

David Gillender and Stuart Jackson both appeared to Teesside Crown Court but their cases were unable to go ahead as their legal representative was taking part in the national strike.

Judge Chris Smith adjourned both cases off until the end of September at the earliest to enable both defendants to be fairly represented throughout the sentencing hearing.

Gillender, sexually abused 'numerous' boys in Redcar several decades ago and was eventually brought to justice earlier this year.

Cleveland Police began investigating after a report was filed against the defendant, and they soon discovered that there were numerous other victims. The offences took place in Redcar from the mid-80s into the early-90s.

The 66-year-old, who now lives in Gloucestershire, was found guilty of 14 counts of sexual assault against young boys following a trial at the same court.

While Jackson was told that his case may not be able to go ahead until the middle of October.

The 41-year-old, Richmond Place, Thornaby, had been facing a number of charges in relation to sex offences on a young girl following an investigation into historic allegations.

Both men will remain in custody until they can appear in court for sentence.
