The best and worst GP surgeries in Sunderland have been revealed after patients had their say on a national survey.

GPs across the country have been rated following the independent GP Patient Survey, which saw patients answer questions based on their experience.

The survey asked patients questions based on their experience at their last appointment.

Questions ranged from whether a patient had a good overall experience to how helpful the receptionist was.

Just 52 percent of patients at on Sunderland GP found they had a “good overall experience”, however, in another GP surgery a respectable 92 percent said they did have a “good overall experience.”

Which surgery was the worst in Sunderland?

The worst GP surgery in Sunderland was New Silksworth Medical Practice, part of Sunderland West 2 PCN, with just 52 percent of patients having a good overall experience.

Just 21 percent of patients said they found it easy to get through on the phone, with just 60 percent find the receptionists to be helpful.

A respectable 90 percent of patients said their needs were met at their last appointment and 89 percent had confidence in healthcare professionals.

However, just 26 percent had a good experience making an appointment and 27 percent were able to see their preferred GP.

Following close behind was Deerness Park Medical Group, part of Sunderland East PCN, with just 55 percent of patients having a good overall experience.

The Northern Echo:

26 percent of patients said they found it easy to get through on the phone, with just nine-percent seeing their preferred GP.

69 percent of appointments were also remote, possibly adding to patients

unhappiness.

Which surgery was the best in Sunderland?

The best surgery in Sunderland was Millfield Medical Group, part of Sunderland West 1 PCN, with 92% having a good overall experience.

The Northern Echo:

98 percent of patients found they had confidence and trust in healthcare professionals and were involved as much as they wanted to be in decisions about care and treatment.

The GP scored 95 percent for the number of patients that found they were treated with care and concern and found their GP listened to them.

Following close behind was Hylton Medical Group, part of Sunderland West 1, with a 91 percent of patients having a good overall experience.

95 percent found the receptionist helpful and just 17 percent of appointments were remote.
