These are the first pictures from the scene of a stabbing that took place in a North East town centre, prompting a police cordon.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm on Yarm Road in Stockton and saw the road closed for some time.

A police cordon was soon erected at the scene as well while enquiries were carried out.

A man in his 30s was left with stab wounds following a serious assault and it was confirmed that he was transported to hospital.

Cleveland Police have now launched an investigation to find out the full circumstances around the incident.

Great North Air Ambulance yesterday confirmed that they were called to the scene and helped ferry a man to hospital.

He remains in hospital this morning but is currently in a stable condition.

A 27-year-old man was arrested following the incident and remains in police custody at this time.
