Police are trying to track down a group of balaclava-clad yobs who were tearing around Darlington on motorbikes and quad bikes.

Officers have released CCTV images of two of the bikers who were part of a larger gang riding dangerously around Darlington yesterday (Monday, August 1).

The vehicles have no number plates and the riders wore balaclavas instead of crash helmets as they tore around the town.

The police motorcycle unit was sent to hunt down the gang but they had scarpered before officers could catch them.

A spokesman for the Durham Roads and Armed Policing Group said: "These two individuals were part of a larger gang of quads and off-road bikes, seen in Darlington yesterday.

"Motorcycle Section attended the area but the group had made themselves scarce. 

"These are not 'kids just having fun'.

"These are criminals who ride dangerously around the town, intimidating members of the public and causing danger to road users and pedestrians.

"They wear balaclavas to hide their faces, their vehicles are not road legal and "they ride without a licence or insurance."
