Two men have been arrested after police were led on a pursuit late at night through Ripon.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm on Thursday when officers were patrolling in the Ripon area.

They spotted a black Hyundai 4x4 vehicle driving erratically on Marshall Way.

Officers attempted to bring it to a stop but it quickly made off from the scene leading police on a chase.

The occupants were seen throwing several items from the vehicle as they continued to evade police.

The vehicle came to a stop and the occupants were then seen running from a vehicle.

One man was initially arrested, however, following the help of a specialist search team and the NPAS helicopter, the other occupant of the vehicle was located and arrested.

The Hyundai was suspected to have been stolen and was seized by North Yorkshire Police.

A number of items were also seized in the vehicle, as well as those which were thrown out during the pursuit, which were all stolen property as well.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop and going equipped for burglary.

A man in his 20s was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, failing to stop and going equipped for theft.

Both men are in police custody at this time.
