A MAN involved in a doorstep confrontation while carrying a knife has admitted a charge of affray now brought by the prosecution.

Appearing at Durham Crown Court last month, Reece Watson admitted other charges of making threats to kill and possessing a knife arising from the incident, in Brandon, County Durham, on May 22 this year.

But he denied the more serious charge of attempting to wound or attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to a man at the address in question.

Judge Ray Singh suggested that the prosecution should consider bringing an affray charge as an alternative to attempted wounding.

The case came back to court today (Wednesday July 20) when prosecuting counsel, Chris Baker, said the affray charge has now been added to the indictment.

It was put to the defendant, who pleaded guilty.

His counsel, Brian Mark, asked for preparation of a probation background report on his client prior to him being sentenced.

Judge Singh agreed, but told the defendant: “The fact I’m adjourning for a report should be taken as no indication as to the sentence that will be imposed.

“All sentencing options will be taken into consideration.”

He remanded 29-year-old Watson, of Mount Pleasant, Stanley Crook, to remain in custody until the sentencing hearing, on August 15.
