With the summer season in full swing and Covid restrictions now behind us, the North East is gearing up for a packed schedule of country shows this year.

The events give the region’s farmers the chance to show off their finest livestock, while the many produce and craft stalls, sheepdog displays and equestrian classes are always a hit with visitors.

Due to last year’s ongoing uncertainty around Covid restrictions on large gatherings, some of the region’s shows were cancelled.

But they are returning with gusto this year and the committee of the Bilsdale Agricultural Show in the North York Moors are among the many delighted to be back.

Chairman Peter Smith, who will oversee this year’s 110th Bilsdale Show on August 27, said: “We’re really excited to finally be holding another show after a two-year break.

“We have a fantastic committee who are working really hard to put together another ‘great little traditional show’.

“For 2022 we have all the usual classes to enter – from sheep and horses to handicrafts and children’s sections.

“We also have some old favourites coming back to exhibit, including Bilsdale Hunt Hounds and Ampleforth Beagles, and some new attractions such as a sheep agility competition and also a dog agility display by Perfect Paws Agility.”

Another new feature for Bilsdale this year is a fell race licenced by the FRA and a shorter fun run, both organised with the Let’s Run shop in Stokesley.

Other attractions include birds of prey, a vintage vehicles parade, Bilsdale Silver Band and sheep shearing demonstrations.
