A number of businesses across the North East have made the decision to close today and tomorrow as soaring temperatures wreak havoc across the region.

It comes as much of the region falls under an amber warning for extreme heat and could see temperatures as high as 35c today and 40c tomorrow.

The Met Office has warned that adverse health effects are likely to be experienced and “some changes in working practices and daily routines” are also likely to be required.

See the full list of North East businesses that have closed due to the hot weather below:

Paws For 5 – Seaham: This North East café is a dog-friendly business that serves food for both owners and their furry friends. The café has decided to close tomorrow due to the hot weather and will reopen on Thursday at 9am.

Doggie Diner – Durham: Another canine café, this venue also offers food for dogs and their owners alike. The venue signed off last week, announcing they would be closed today and tomorrow due to the extreme temperatures. The business will reopen on Wednesday at 10am.

Star of Bengal – Darlington: This popular and restaurant and takeaway based in Darlington has also decided to close tomorrow due to the “excessive heat expected” giving the staff a welcome break to “rest and recharge.”

Holly’s Doggy Deli – Darlington: This business is an independent dog shop that specialises in healthy dog food, treats and accessories. The business has decided to close tomorrow due to the excessive heat, but is currently open today. They will reopen again on Wednesday.

Sense of Style – Darlington: This Bridal, Prom and special occasion wear shop is closed today and tomorrow due to the extreme weather. The move is due to dresses not fitting properly during hot weather and some clients feeling faint during dress fitting. The store will reopen on Thursday July 21.

Woofs and Cuts – Durham: This pet groomer has also announced that it will be closed today and tomorrow. In a statement on Facebook, the groomer said it was “unsafe for any dogs to be in the hot conditions and for the journey to the appointment.” The groomer will be taking appointments again for Tuesday July 26 and onwards.
