Today, many areas of the North East are set to be blasted by the start of a heatwave expected to last much of the week – here’s how hot it will get.

A record-breaking heatwave has started today which could lead the UK to see the hottest day ever next Sunday and Monday.

Temperatures as high as 40c have been predicted for many in the UK on Sunday, beating the current record of 38.7c in Cambridge Botanical Gardens in 2019.

However, much of the North East will already be seeing scorching temperatures today as we are set for the hottest day of the year so far today, with some areas seeing highs of 28c.

Here’s an hour-by-hour forecast as temperatures set to reach as high as 28c:

The forecast will be based on the weather in Darlington today.

  • 11am – 24c, feels like 23c
  • 12pm – 25c, feels like 24c
  • 1pm – 26c, feels like 25c
  • 2pm – 27c, feels like 25c
  • 3pm – 27c, feels like 26c
  • 4pm – 28c, feels like 26c
  • 5pm – 28c, feels like 26c
  • 6pm – 27c, feels like 25c
  • 7pm – 26c, feels like 25c
  • 8m – 25c, feels like 24c
  • 9pm – 24c, feels like 23c
  • 10pm – 22c, feels like 22c
  • 11pm – 21c, feels like 21c

As we move into tomorrow, temperatures are expected to be at more moderate levels, with Darlington reaching as high as 23c by mid-afternoon.

However, many are in for a warm night, with temperatures not expected to dip below 19c during the early hours of the morning.
