Former Chancellor Rishi Sunak has launched a bid to run for Prime Minister in an effort to replace Boris Johnson after his resignation.
In a statement on Twitter, the Richmond MP said he is now “standing to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and your Prime Minister.”
He added: “Let’s restore trust, rebuild the economy and reunite the country #Ready4Rishi."

Alongside his statement, Mr Sunak posted a video looking back through his family history.
The news comes after a week of turmoil, ending in Boris Johnson announcing he would be resigning as Prime Minister, making a stepping-down speech outside of Number 10 yesterday (Thursday July 8).
