Two people have been arrested in connection with thousands of pounds worth of damage being caused to a plane at Teesside airport.

It was reported that the damage had been done to the plane on Sunday, June 26.

It was being stored in a landside field at Teesside Airport.

Several thousand pounds worth of damage was caused in an incident, which was reported to have happened at about 9.30pm on June 26.

A man aged 20, and a teenage boy aged 17, were arrested last weekend in connection with the incident.

They have been interviewed by officers and released on bail while enquiries continue.

Staff at Teesside Airport have reassured the public that there had not been a major security breach and no-one had accessed the air field.

The Royal Air Maroc Boeing 737 is retired and currently in the process of being recycled.

Security at the airport has since been ramped up and there are 24/7 patrols being carried out to try and prevent anyone from trespassing on the site.

In a statement today (Wednesday, July 6), a Durham Police spokesperson said: “Two people have been arrested in connection with an incident in which an aircraft, that was being de-commissioned, was damaged at Teesside International Airport.

“Several thousand pounds worth of damage was caused to a plane during the incident, which happened on Sunday, June 26 at around 9.30pm.

“A man aged 20, and a teenage boy aged 17, were arrested last weekend in connection with the incident.

“They have been interviewed by officers and released on bail while enquiries continue.”
