A driver who was pulled over twice in a few weeks has been locked up after breaching the terms of a suspended sentence.

John Pink was stopped on April 12 after he was spotted driving a VW Golf in Middlesbrough without insurance and refused to give a sample when officers believed he was driving under the influence of cannabis.

Teesside Crown Court heard how 25-year-old was pulled over again on May 1 when officers caught him driving again without insurance while he was on bail for the original offence.

Christopher Bevan, prosecuting, told the court that Pink was made subject to a suspended sentence of 12 months for 12 months in June last year.

Pink, of Normanby Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to all motoring charges and breaching the conditions of his suspended sentence.

John Nixon, in mitigation, said the father-of-three found work in January this year after completing a training scheme and worked in Port Talbot, resulting in him putting work and his children ahead of completing his unpaid hours.

He said: “He was given a suspended sentence order and the defendant was plainly given an opportunity and failed to take advantage of it.”

Judge Christopher Smith jailed Pink for a total of 12 months and banned him from driving for a further three years and six months.

“You were taking a cavalier attitude to regulations and rules pertaining to the road, put in place to make the road as safe as possible for users,” he said.

“Don’t get behind the wheel Mr Pink, when you are released, until that period of disqualification has ended because with your record the courts would take a very dim view of you driving whilst disqualified.”
