A motorist caught behind the wheel on the A684 near Northallerton whilst double the drink drive limit has been banned from driving.

Damien Jones was caught drink driving on June 19 this year at Ainderby Steeple.

A breath test revealed he had 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35mg.

Jones's case went before North Yorkshire Magistrates sitting at York on Monday (July 4) and he pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol level above the legal limit.

Magistrates disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 17-months.

The 40-year-old, of Billinge Road, Wigan was also fined £500 with additional court costs and charges bringing the total up to £785.
