A well-known family firm has announced the end of 30 years’ business after it sold its taxi operation to a local competitor.

Stockton’s Tees Valley Cabs has sold up to Boro Cars after suffering multiple family tragedies.

Headed by four brothers the business originally started out as County Cars, with the family saying they “put everything” into building one of the region’s much-loved family businesses.

The family now plans to “move onto other pastures” and spend time with their families after a successful period of work, which spanned two decades.

In a goodbye statement, they thanked their loyal customers and “fantastic” drivers and staff for their endless hard work.

A statement released by the firm read: “As word is now out we would like to officially confirm that our business has been taken over by another company who we wish the absolute best of luck.

“This is not a decision that has been taken lightly after starting out as County Cars 30 years ago we put everything we had into building our business to what it is today.

“As most people know we lost our beloved brother and business partner very unexpectedly and also recently our beloved mother, that’s in itself has taken its toll on top of a very challenging economic climate.

“After 30 years it’s time for us to move onto other pastures, spend time with our families and move onto different things because let’s face it life’s too short and the past few years have shown us just that.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Stockton on Tees for all your continued support and loyalty along with our fantastic drivers and staff, we will miss every single one of you.

“Love to you all. The Late Fazza, Mazi, Zazi & Abbass.”

Paying tribute to the family, Chris Laycock posted on social media: "Good luck with all you may do in the future as you fully deserve it."

And Susan Davis added: "It’s so sad to see you go, a reliable good company. My condolences to you all. Stay safe and take care all of you x."
