The price refuelling is continuing to climb despite the wholesale price of oil falling, as motorists continue to struggle with the cost of owning a car.

The cost of a litre of unleaded petrol reached 191.53p on Sunday (July 3) with diesel costing 199.03p per litre, according to RAC Fuel Watch.

Prices have been rising consistently over the last month despite motoring organisation RAC saying the cost of petrol should begin to fall as wholesale oil prices have come down.

BP at Washington Services on the A1(M) was slammed last month by some drivers for charging over £2 per litre for both petrol and diesel but prices at the motorway forecourt have now reached 205.9p for unleaded and 209.9p for diesel.

Last week, Chancellor Rishi Sunak told MPs he will carefully consider calls for a "more substantial" fuel duty cut after the 5p per litre reduction implemented in March failed to halt price rises.
