Three men are due to appear in court charged in connection with a drugs conspiracy after over £400,000 worth of cash was found in a car and drugs were located at a North East property.

On Thursday (June 30), officers from Northumbria Police stopped a vehicle in the Walker area of Newcastle.

Searches of the car recovered a large quantity of cash, believed to be over £400,000, and two men both aged 32, were arrested.

An investigation was launched in the aftermath, which led officers to an address on North Road, Wallsend, where a 29-year-old man was arrested, and quantities of cannabis and cocaine were found and seized.

The three men have subsequently been charged with supplying or offering to supply Class A drugs and are due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on August 1.

Detective Inspector John Robinson, of Northumbria Police, said: “This has been a result of fantastic police work and intelligence gathering.

“These three suspects have found themselves arrested, searched and charged all within less than 48 hours.

“Our proactive approach towards tackling serious crime is crucial, and under the banner of Operation Sentinel, we will continue to detect and disrupt serious criminality.

“I would ask that the public to respect the ongoing live proceedings and avoids any speculation that may jeopardise these cases.”
