Darlington’s MP says changes should be made before an event like Teesside Airshow can be held in the town again.

The highly anticipated return of the event, held at Teesside Airport earlier this month, was marred by traffic chaos and congestion that saw motorists stuck in traffic for hours.

A report published today highlighted failures in planning and traffic management that contributed to the problem.

MP Peter Gibson said he would not be calling for an inquiry into the issues raised within the report.

However, he said: “The airshow is a brilliant event which is most welcomed by the people of Darlington.

“I simply want my constituents to be refunded and the traffic chaos to never happen again.”

He called for extra buses, trains, park and ride systems and “much better” traffic management to be put in place in future.
