Police officers, paramedics and firefighters are among the emergency services heroes taking part in a community fun day in Darlington.

The event this Saturday is aimed at honouring the services which keeps the community safe.

An emergency services day is being held on Saturday, June 2 in Darlington Market Square.

Members of the public can watch firefighters from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service demonstrating their water rescue skills and take a closer look at their engine, as well as patrol cars from Durham police and inside an ambulance.

Councillor Mike Renton, Darlington Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “Our community safety team has developed very close working relationships with the emergency services and other organisations as we all aim to make Darlington a safe place for all to enjoy, and we’re thrilled to be able to come together for this special day to say thanks to all those who work so hard in our communities.

“We’d love to see as many people as possible in the Market Square as we celebrate our local heroes who do so much for our community.”

As well as County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue, Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service, there will also be representatives from Darlington Council’s civic enforcement team, Durham Police and Crime Commissioner, Northumbria Blood Bikes and Cygnet Law, which is sponsoring the event.

Young visitors can also enjoy free face painting and a balloon artist.

This event celebrates the heroes at the heart of our community, and we are proud to be the sponsor. We can’t wait to get involved and join in all the fun on the day.”

The Emergency Services Day will be held in the Market Square from 10am-4pm.
