PICTURES and video footage show the large scale of a scrap yard fire in Darlington.

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen for miles around as the emergency services dealt with the incident in the Albert Hill area of the town.

Residents were urged to keep their windows closed due to the amount of smoke from the fire.

However police confirmed there are no immediate health risks to the public.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for several hours around the site while emergency services worked at the scene.

"The fire is not being treated as suspicious," Durham Constabulary added.
