A MAN who was arrested on suspicion of rape has been released while enquiries continue.

The man, who is in his 20s, was questioned by officers after being arrested on Friday.

It was in connection with an incident in Hartlepool last weekend. 

A woman in her 20s reported she was attacked after a night out in Hartlepool on Saturday, June 11, into Sunday June 12.

The incident is said to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Easington Road area of the town.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “A man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape has now been interviewed then released under investigation while enquiries continue.”

The woman is being offered specialist support as detectives investigate a number of lines of enquiry.

Police also appealed for witnesses who were on Easington Road between 3am and 4.30am.
