A Brazilian Steakhouse will open at a popular Durham venue later this year after the owners behind the venture confirmed that it would be creating an “exciting opportunity” in the heart of the city.

Rio Steakhouse, which also has restaurants in Middlesbrough and two places in Newcastle, revealed on Friday (June 17) that it would be opening a new venture at Walkergate in Durham.

The popular chain, which offers a range of steaks, as well as cocktails and desserts, will open its doors in July, and join big names Slug and Lettuce, Players, Nandos and Ask Italian that already have places in Walkergate.

Now that the restaurant has been confirmed, those that visit will be hoping to spot several Newcastle United footballers, who frequently visit the Newcastle branches of Rio.

Over the last few months, fan favourite Joelington and his Brazilian teammate Bruno Guimarães have been snapped enjoying a meal there.

In recent times, Walkergate in Durham has gone from strength to strength after expecting the arrival of boutique bowling alley Lane 7 later this month.
