A seven-day indoor market is reportedly coming to County Durham later this year after a business group is looking for stallholders to fill places in what is hoped to be a successful venture.

The proposed market, which will be at Byron Place shopping centre in Seaham, will attempt to bring together independent businesses from across the region in what could be an experimental schedule later in 2022.

It’s expected that up to ten traders will be able to sign up for 12 weeks initially, which could then become more regular.

No date has so far been set for the opening of the market, but it is expected at some point in 2022.

In a statement that was posted online earlier this week, the indoor market was confirmed with some other details about the new concept.

It read: “Byron Place is starting an indoor market open seven days a week very soon and wants local businesses to be part of it and bring something new to the Seaham community.

“You have been asking and we have listened - this is for you.

“We are looking for individual traders that are happy to sign up for a 12-week initial start-up.

“There will be a minimum of ten stall holders to start and you can use your own current set up, with a gazebo and table.

“The shopping centre will promote the indoor market on a regular basis to drive awareness, footfall, and your sales.”

Already, Byron Place shopping centre boasts ASDA, Home Bargains, Greggs, B&M, and Wilko among others.
