THERE is major disruption on the roads leading to Teesside Airport - as drivers on the A67 say they've been waiting for "three hours."

Drivers on the stretch of road, which runs between Stockton and Darlington, have been left in gridlock jams since around 10am.

Chaotic scenes captured by drivers and passengers also show the moment occupants left their vehicles to watch the Red Arrows at around 12pm.

The Northern Echo:

One driver, who had stopped at the time as they had nowhere to go, said: "We've been queuing since the morning. We'll be lucky to get in before it closes."

Another driver, who said they had been hoping to arrive before the entry time of 10, said they had been left furious at the congestion.

The Northern Echo:

They said: "The police have been on the scene and have been doing traffic management, but we've had hours of this."

On social media, hundreds of comments have hit been highly critical of the chaotic scenes.

David Jones tweeted that he had actually given up after spending hours in traffic.

He said: "Given up on trying to get to @TeesAirshow - traffic planning non-existent, drove 100+ miles only to spend 2 hoursin traffic queuing from the outskirts of Darlington and still be over 2 miles away from the site. Abysmal event management."

The A66 has also suffered from major tailbacks with similar queues seen from around 10am today, prompting Cleveland Police's involvement.
