INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after a huge cannabis farm was discovered in Thornaby on Tuesday.

Soon after the discovery of the cannabis farm seven males were arrested, however, following initial investigations, six males have been released with no further action and have been safeguarded as victims of modern slavery.

A 51-year-old man arrested has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

Police forced their way into the building on Teesside Industrial Estate just after noon and discovered a large number of rooms full of plants. Police estimated they could be worth several millions of pounds.

Colleagues from Northern Power Grid attended to ensure the electrical system was safe.

An investigation is ongoing into alleged growth of cannabis and modern slavery offences.
