A MAN was cut free after the car he was in overturned during a three-vehicle collision this morning.

The crash happened at 11.10am on Eden Terrace in the Belmont area of Durham, near to Bannatyne’s Hotel and Gym.

The collision involved an E Class Mercedes, Ford Escort sport and a Hyundai I20.

The incident caused traffic to build up in the area.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Reports of a collision between three vehicles, on Eden Terrace, Durham, came into CDDFRS control at 11.15am this morning (Monday, June, 6).

"Crews from Spennymoor and Seaham attended along with a crew from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.

"Also in attendance were colleagues from police and ambulance.

"Firefighters safely extricated a man from a vehicle at the scene, who was transported to hospital by North East Ambulance Service. Crews left the scene just before 12 noon.”

A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service said: "A vehicle was reported on its roof and a patient was trapped. The patient was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham."

The man’s condition is not known at this time.
