THOUSANDS of people flocked to Durham City this weekend, as the streets were filled with rainbow flags and another year of Durham Pride took place.

The annual event, which celebrates diversity and inclusion within County Durham and Darlington, had to be cancelled due to the pandemic – but spectacularly returned this year to the excitement of the crowds that descended on the historic city to celebrate Pride.

Events took place right across the weekend, with Saturday mainly focused on a range of free entertainment, a beer tent and food stalls at The Sands in Durham, which also saw Northern Star Cheerleaders, a Pop Princess show, Little Mix tribute, and The Katy Perry Experience perform, as well as a Pride dog walk and fun fair.

The main attraction, though, was the traditional parade from Durham Cathedral, which happened on Sunday at 1pm that saw hundreds walk around the streets of the city in a colourful show of unity.

Alongside Durham’s Pride event, many more similar events will be taking place across UK cities – with Durham’s programme of Pride being a charitable one.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "However you identify everybody is welcome to join with us

"Our Pride event is very unique among Pride events in that any proceeds will go directly towards charitable work as we work to give back to the community as part of the event."
