A RETIRED Church Of England archdeacon accused of historical sex offences will face a retrial after a jury was discharged today (May 26).

George Granville Gibson, who was a vicar in County Durham and became an archdeacon in Auckland in the early 1990s, was accused of six counts of indecent assault.

The 85-year-old, of Worsley Park, Darlington, denied all the charges when he went on trial at Durham Crown Court, earlier this week.

Judge Sarah Mallett today discharged the jury and set new trial date for October 5.
