AN entertainment extravaganza is being lined up to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Northallerton.

There will be singing and dancing on the town square, classic cars, traction engines and a children’s entertainer in a right royal knees-up on Sunday June 5.

The free event is being organised by Northallerton Business Improvement District (BID) in honour of Her Majesty’s record-breaking 70-years on the throne.

Entertainment gets underway at noon and a busy stage schedule includes popular singing acts, two ‘princesses’, Northallerton Silver Band and Northallerton Musical Theatre Company.

The High Street will be closed to traffic for the duration of the event, allowing spectators more space to enjoy the day.

BID manager Graham Bell said: “This is a chance for the whole town to celebrate a very special moment in our history.

“We want to mark the Jubilee with a fun event everyone can enjoy.”

A full stage schedule will be published soon.

This event replaces the original 1940s Homefront Sunday to respect sensitivities over the conflict in Ukraine.
