A COUNTY Durham motorist has been handed a fine of over £800 for travelling at speeds twice over the legal speed limit all while 250 miles from his house.

Declan Tomlin Lavery, 27, of Illingworth Grove, Durham, was caught speeding at 61mph in a 30mph zone on the A4165 Banbury Road, Oxford on July 24, 2021, via an automatic camera device.

After the speeding charge, he appeared at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on May 4, 2022 – where he pleaded guilty to travelling 61mph.

He was slapped with a fine of £666, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66, as well as ordered to pay a further £90 – all totalling £822.

Lavery was also endorsed with six points on his license.
