THE sudden closure of a branch of Wilko in North Yorkshire has left customers confused of when they can next visit after it was confirmed that the shop would be closed 'until further notice'.

This morning, shoppers that visited the retail store on High Street in Northallerton were left dissappointed after they were greeted with a closure notice instead of the usual staff members that usually work there on a weekend.

In the handwritten note, which was attached the door, it states: "Sorry for the inconvenience, closed to further notice. Thank you."

After the note was posted to the shop frontage, many shoppers were seen looking at the closure sign, with several others taking to social media.

One Facebook user posted: "I visited this morning and expected to get straight in, I wonder why it's closed?" while another posted: "Wilko in Northallerton is closed until further notice - I saw this note this morning."

After contacting Wilko, the company have clarified the situation and confirmed that the closure was due to a 'technical issue' that involved the store's shutter malfunctioning this morning.

A statemement from Wilko said: "We hit a technical issue this morning with our store shutter which meant we couldn’t open up as usual.  We’re fixing it now and will open as soon as we can.  We apologise to customers for any inconvenience."

This isn't the first time that Northallerton Wilko has hit headlines this year, after it became one of only two North Yorkshire stores to start to allow dogs to enter their stores.

From February 7, Wilko started allowing pet owners to bring their pets in a number of stores.

The rollout to over two-thirds of Wilko stores comes after a successful pilot at two locations, the company said.
