FOUR men have been charged following the discovery of a substantial amount of cannabis and cash at a ‘vacant’ property in a County Durham town.

Following reports of suspicious activity from the public, police officers were called to an address on Byerley Road in Shildon at around 10.30pm on Wednesday (April 27).

Witnesses reported loud banging noises coming from inside the vacant property and raised the alarm.

After arriving on the scene, officers located four men, a substantial amount of class B drugs and a large quantity of cash.

The men, aged 22, 41, 26 and 35, were arrested at the scene and later charged with possession with intent to supply a class B drug.

They are due to appear at Peterlee Magistrates court today (April 29).

The address has now been made secured by officers.
