FRIENDS and family of a 13-year-old boy who died ten years ago this month have raised more than £1,000 for charities in his honour.

Alison Meacher, mum of Dominic Meacher, a Richmond School student who tragically took his own life in April 2012, said they wanted to mark the sad occasion with something positive in his memory.

She said: “In recognition of the milestone, friends and family gathered to take part in a 10-mile memory walk to remember Dom and raise money for two charities close to our families’ heart. Dominic is still very much missed by all those who knew him but the family wanted to use this occasion to do something positive and hopefully contribute towards helping to save the lives of people like Dom through their fundraising. “Having set an original target of raising £500 the current total stands at over £1,000 which has been raised in Dom’s memory. The money raised will be split between Papyrus UK, a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people and the Great North Air Ambulance who were first on the scene on the day Dom died.”

“Students at Risedale School also held a bake sale which resulted in an additional £190 being raised."

A JustGiving site has been set up and should anyone still wish to make a donation they can do so here.
