TRIBUTES have been left at the scene of a tragic crash which claimed the life of a 32-year-old motorcyclist from the North East.

Residents paid respects to the young man after he was involved in a crash at a busy crossroad junction in Sunderland on Easter Monday.

Northumbria Police confirmed a Suzuki Swift and an off-road motorcycle had collided at the junction of St Luke's Terrace, East Moor Road and Midmoor Road in Pallion.

Last week, the police said the family of the man, who has not yet been named, were aware and are being offered support by dedicated family liaison officers.

But at the scene of the incident today (April 25), colourful tributes, balloons and even a poem were left on a lampost in remembrance of the man.

Dozens of messages of support were left along with flowers.

In one heartfelt poem attached along with an image of the man, it read: "I wish I could see you one more time, come walking through the door.

"But I know that is impossible, I will hear your voice no more.

"I know you can feel my tears. And you don't want me to cry, yet my heart is broken because I can't understand why someone so precious had to die.

"I pray to God will give me strength - and somehow get me through - as I struggle with the heartache that came when I lost you."

After his death Sergeant Steve Armstrong, of Northumbria Police, said: “Any death on our roads is an absolute tragedy and our thoughts go out to the man’s loved ones.

“It’s difficult to comprehend what they are going through at this time, and I would ask that their privacy is respected as they attempt to come to terms with the events of the last 72 hours.

“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident are very much ongoing and I would like to thank those who have come forward with information since our public appeal.

“If you witnessed this collision, or were in the area around that time on Monday and saw a black Suzuki Swift or an off-road bike travelling, we still want to hear from you.

“Please also check any dashcam footage – your information could give the man’s family the answers they deserve.”
