HORSE lovers turned out in force to find out more about what goes on behind the scenes at busy racing yards. 

The historic racing centre in Middleham, near Leyburn, is home to hundreds of horses.

Every year the Yorkshire Dales town allows the public to see behind the scenes and meet with some of the country’s most well-known horses and stable yards.

The annual Middleham open day took place on Good Friday, with 12 yards throwing open their doors to the public.

Crowds turned out to have a look at what happens behind the scenes.

There was also the chance to meet Trooper Middleham and his Corporal of Horse Michael McGrath and learn about the Household Cavalry

Middleham has 15 racing yards and has been home to racehorses in training for more than 200 years.

The town’s racing industry continues to thrive with more than 400 winners having been trained there each year for the past 38 years.

People also made the most of the town's many hospitality venues for a drink and bite to eat.
