THE emergency service has shared the shocking aftermath of a collision between two vehicles in County Durham that saw one vehicle have its roof cut off and left in a wreck by the side of the road.

Taking to social media, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service showed the wreckage and firefighters working to extract a passenger, while ambulance crews and the police made the scene safe during an incident on Wednesday (April 6) on the A66 near Darlington.

During the collision, two fire units from Darlington attended, along with a special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland, paramedics, and police officers.

No serious injuries were reported during the collision.

A spokesperson for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “Last Wednesday, two appliances from Darlington and the Special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland attended this road traffic collision between two private motor vehicles on the A66. Thankfully, our crews were able to safely extricate one casualty from the vehicle.

“Our colleagues from North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Durham Constabulary who are also stationed at Darlington, were also in attendance and worked brilliantly together with our firefighters.”
