FIREFIGHTERS rescued a young girl who fell 15ft down into a beck and was left clinging by the water's edge.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to help the nine-year-old girl who slipped on a footpath and fell through a hedge down into Gayle beck, Hawes.

The girl was left clinging to the bank with her feet in the water before firefighters from Hawes waded in and carried her out.

The youngster was left in the care of paramedics and a fire service spokesman described her as being 'cold but unharmed'.
