A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after allegedly stealing 17 pieces of jewellery from properties across the North East in a recent crime spree.

Officers from Northumbria Police detained the suspected burglar after seizing three necklaces, 12 rings, a bracelet and a pendant from his home, following a specialist operation from the police force.

The items are believed to have been stolen from properties across Gateshead over recent months.

Following the arrest, Northumbria Police have released pictures of the stolen jewellery in an attempt to reunite it with their rightful owners.

Detective Constable Chris Sample, from Northumbria Police’s Central Burglary Team, said: “We do not think these pieces of jewellery belong to the occupant of the house in which they were found.

“However, we do not know where they have been stolen from and so have taken the decision to release a picture of them.
