POLICE are investigating after an elderly woman died when the car she was travelling in collided with a wall.

The 85-year-old woman, who was a passenger in a Renault Scenic, was travelling from Stanhope when it left the road and crashed.

It happened on Thursday, March 24 on the A689 on the way to Eastgate at around 1.15pm.

Two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital following the collision.

Police have confirmed the woman has now died as a result of her injuries.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is now underway.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers would like to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision and may have dashcam footage of their journey.”
